If you’re a fitness enthusiast like myself, you may have heard about Beachbody’s newly released program, Hammer and Chisel. lf you’re wondering what all the hype is about, you have come to the right place. I haven’t been this excited about a program in a LONG time. Since the program was announced at Summit earlier this year, I have literally been counting down the days until it was available. And YES, I was one of those crazy people trying to order it the second it was released, which resulted in the website crashing! I did eventually get through and got my copy! PHEW!
I am addicted to Body Beast and also do a round of 21 Day Fix Extreme every few months when I feel like I need to dial in on my nutrition a little more. You can imagine how excited I was when I found out that my two favorite trainers have teamed up and created this workout that is designed to get you cut and shredded in just 60 days! Coming from someone who has tried just about every program from Beachbody and achieved great results, I know this programs will work with a little motivation and commitment.
So, What Hammer is and Chisel?
It’s a 60 day fitness program created by celebrity trainers Autumn Calabrese and Sagi Kalev, creators of the programs 21 Day Fix and Body Beast. This program is specifically designed to get you shredded with a combination of strength training and cardio.

For the program, you will need a few dumbbells, a bench or stability ball and a chin-up bar or resistance band. That’s it!
What makes the Hammer and Chisel effective?
The Master’s Hammer and Chisel is built on the three phases of SSP Training— Stabilization, Strength, and Power. Other workouts only focus on one or two phases, which might give you decent results. But The Master’s Hammer and Chisel program incorporates all three methods to help you relentlessly chip away fat and carve every muscle for a strong, visually stunning body in 60 days.
- 12 brand-new, 30- to 40-minute workouts that combine Sagi and Autumn’s proven techniques for 60 days of hardcore resistance training.
- Sagi and Autumn make eating for your goals simple. That’s why they included their easy-to-follow and completely customizable nutrition plan, along with 7 portion-control containers that show you how to portion out the right amount of food to help you reach your unique fitness goals.
- Flexible nutrition that allows you to lean out, sculpt and maintain, or build muscle.
- Includes options to adapt certain exercises if you have limited access to equipment.
- Includes a modifier who demonstrates some moves at a lower intensity.
How does The Master’s Hammer and Chisel differ from Body Beast?
Body Beast is a bodybuilding program that focuses on muscular hypertrophy. The Master’s Hammer and Chisel includes aspects of bodybuilding, but also focuses on improving endurance, power, agility, strength, balance, and range of motion to sculpt a tight, defined physique.
How does The Master’s Hammer and Chisel differ from 21 Day Fix EXTREME?
21 Day Fix EXTREME is a shorter, goal-specific program, whereas The Master’s Hammer and Chisel is a full 60-day program with slightly longer workouts. 21 Day Fix EXTREME focuses on getting you shredded, while The Master’s Hammer and Chisel also helps you improve other aspects of your fitness, such as muscular endurance, power, strength, and agility. It’s a whole new approach to getting you ripped.

Day One Update:
Workout: Chisel Balance
Time: 40 minutes
Difficulty: 6 out of 10
After spending Sunday grocery shopping and meal prepping, I was all set to start Hammer and Chisel today. The first workout is Chisel Balance. This is a slow paced workout but its definitely not easy. I was sweating my butt off with all of the leg and glute work. If you have terrible balance like myself, you may look like a young child who is just learning to walk. I was wobbling around like crazy and kept having to catch myself, but I definitely got a great burn. My legs were on fire the whole time and I’m excited to see how much my balance improves in the next 60 days. There are 8 different moves that are repeated twice throughout the 40 minutes. Some of the moves included pistol squats, bulgarian squat jumps, and arm press bridges (all while trying to balance and not fall on your face). The hardest moves in the workout are definitely the bulgarian squat jumps (ouch!) It’s safe to say I’ll be hurting tomorrow but I’m looking forward to day two! Here are some of my meals from today: minus my post-workout shakeology and a few other meals/snacks. 😉
Workout: Hammer Plyometrics
Time: 26 minutes
Difficulty: 6 out of 10
Today’s workout was Hammer Plyometrics AKA lots of jumping. I was pleasantly surprised that this workout was only 26 minutes long because I was up super early doing it and trying to get it done while my son was playing. It was a pretty intense workout for only 25 minutes – but still a little easier than chisel balance in my opinion. This workout worked the whole body with moves such as pull up + jumps, pull ups + burpees, weighted lunge jumps, side to side burpee jumps and push ups jumps (I can barely get off the floor with my push-up jumps). Overall, there were a few hard moves but the time flies by so quickly that it wasn’t so bad. I will definitely be feeling it tomorrow though.
Workout: Iso Strength Chisel
Time: 34 minutes
Difficulty: 7 out of 10
Up next was iso strength chisel. I was so sore this morning I could barely move! I did day one late at night but then did day two early the next day, so my body didn’t have the chance to be sore yet. But today was a real STRUGGLE. My hamstrings and glutes were so sore, I could barely sit unless it was on a nice, fluffy couch…but getting back up was my real problem. (Blaming this on day one with Autumn). Iso strength chisel has been the toughest one yet, but I actually LOVED it. The whole workout consists of doing 10 reps of a move (most with weights), plus a 10 second hold, another 10 reps, 10 second hold, 10 more reps and another 10 second hold. So pretty much, 30 straight reps with a hold every 10 that will BURN. Literally, I was on fire and ready to fall over by the second or third hold. Autumn is kind enough to give you a stretch in between each move, which also means that there will be no end stretch and you will work the whole 34 minutes. Some of the moves include sumo squats, push-ups, one arm rows, lateral raises and some ab work. It’s tough but it’s only a half hour workout and I feel like each and every workout so far has been very effective and has worked a different area of my overall fitness. Kind of obsessed with the program at this point!
Workout: ISO Speed Hammer
Time: 25 minutes
Difficulty: 6 out of 10
This is a short and sweet workout. It has a long warm-up, so you’re really only working out for 18 minutes. I really felt like I needed a little extra today, so I went for a short run and threw in Chisel Abs. Each move is done twice with 10 reps each. First, it’s done slowly and the second time it’s done as fast as you can (while maintaining proper form). The moves include push-ups, static lunges, chin-ups, dead-lifts, side laterals, sumo squats, rear delt cross flys, pistol squats (hardest move in my opinion!!), face down curls and calf raises. Although it was a good workout, I suggest lifting as heavy as you can handle in order to get a better burn!
Workout: Chisel Endurance
Time: 36 minutes
Difficulty: 8 out of 10
I have definitely loved all of the workouts in this program, but this one was one of the best because it was the first time I felt REALLY challenged. It was a real sweat-dripping, stopping to catch my breath cardio workout. After doing Body Beast for almost a full year and only doing one day of cardio per week, I really feel like my endurance can use some work. I love a good challenge so this was a great workout to push myself and start improving my endurance. Some of the moves included bench run-ups, negative pull-ups, weighted step-up crossovers, decline push-ups and one hand row extensions. Each move lasts one full minute and they’re super tiring! Autumn moves right into the next move immediately, so be prepared to work your butt off. Each move is done once in the first round, and then the round is completed a second time. Be sure to get plenty of water ready for this one because you will be need it. Do NOT do this one on an empty stomach or you may get lightheaded. I used Energize from Beachbody’s performance line for this workout and it definitely gave me the push I needed to get through the whole thing.
Workout: Totoal Body Hammer and 10 Minute Ab Hammer
Time: 42 minutes
Difficulty: 8 out of 10
Wooooo I loved this workout so much! Although this is the longest workout yet, it was by FAR my favorite. I am a Body Beast girl and this workout is very similar to a Beast workout. It was straight lifting and worked the entire body. There’s something about lifting heavy weights that releases every ounce of stress in my body for a little while. This workout used pyramid style sets throughout the whole workout and will rev up your metabolic burn for sure! Each round consists of 3 moves done in sets of 10 reps, 8 reps and 6 reps then it’s repeated again. There are 3 total rounds consisting of moves such as squats, reverse lunges, bench presses, wide pull-ups, reverse grip rows and shoulder presses. I really liked that I was able to lift HEAVY in this workout and plan on upping the weights next time. I give this workout two thumbs up!
The 10 minute ab was great! My abs were on fire the whole time and I was definitely struggling through each move (which makes me happy because I know I’m working hard!) I really liked that there were a lot of new moves that I haven’t tried before in other programs. I think I’ll throw this one in twice a week. 😉
